How Can You Help ?
The centre is funded mostly by donations from the members and from the public. All members (except those who really cannot afford it) give a small donation each time they attend (for example, about £9 per one-hour HBO session). This goes toward the expenses of the Centre, but even with the assistance of unpaid volunteers, and a partial grant from our local NHS Health Board, expenditure is more than income and the difference has to be raised from outside.
A lot of our members are active in fund-raising, but the nature of MS means that many of them (and their families) are fully occupied in coping with the demands of everyday living. We depend heavily upon fit and able-bodied people like yourselves.
Sponsored Events or Challenges
Calling all runners, walkers, cyclists, sky-divers, rock climbers, swimmers, in fact sporting types of all kinds. Could you turn the challenges that you pursue for pleasure as a fit healthy individual into a source of funds for people with MS who are no longer able to enjoy such an active life? To find out how to seek sponsorship for your fun, visit our fundraising page on justgiving.com
Does that sound too energetic for you? How about a sponsored slim? A sponsored silence (one way of keeping the children quiet for a while)? A sponsored cook-a-thon - and sell the resulting goodies to raise yet more funds.
If you can think of something whacky, you could be on to a winner. The sky is the limit. The ideas are up to you.
Amazon A-Store
Through our A-store you can order books, electronics, toys, kitchen appliances, software or download MP3 music... and earn commission for us. Take a look now - no obligation to buy, but we think you will find something that tempts you!
You can buy Amazon gift certificates too.
Postage Stamps
You can send us the used postage stamps from your envelopes. Foreign stamps are the most valuable, but even humble second class UK stamps can be bundled up and sold on.
Cut them from the envelope leaving about half a centimetre margin and post them to us at the Centre at 40c Swanfield, Edinburgh, EH6 5RX.
PLEASE pack the stamps tightly - if they are too loose they all congregate at the end of the package in transit, which could make it too thick for the postage you paid on it, then we have to pay excess! This can be more than the value of the enclosed stamps!
Sparklefish
Sparklefish is an online gift shop selling an affordable and original range of goods individually handcrafted in the UK: jewellery, bags, accessories and artwork. 10% of all sales to visitors buying through this page will be donated to Swanfield.
To identify customers visiting from here, we need you to enter the word "SWANFIELD" in the comments box on the Sparklefish checkout page when you have chosen your items.
Do take a look at what is currently in stock - it changes from week to week, and many things are one-offs. These craftsmen and women are personal friends of some of our members. Many of the artists are living and working in Central Scotland, all have connections with Scottish art colleges.
Volunteer
We're always looking for people to help in the centre or with can collections. Give us a call on 0131 554 5384 or use the contact form to drop us a message.
