Can Collections
We still rely heavily on one of the oldest ways of raising funds - old-fashioned traditional can-rattling. (except that collectors are no longer allowed to rattle a can in the face of the public - they have to stand decorously where they are not blocking the path, and not harass potential donors)
It is not glamorous, but it gets results, and has the added advantage of bringing fundraisers into direct contact with members of the public, many of whom stop for a few words as they drop coins into the can. It might surprise you to know how many people say they have a relation or neighbour with MS. Sometimes they were not aware of the services we provide until they spoke to us, and we have gained many new members this way.
We hold about half-a-dozen collections a year, mostly at supermarkets, but also at sporting events etc. We have to book our day well ahead, and hope for good weather and a good turnout of collectors. The date and location of the next collection is on the "Events" page.
The amount we can raise by this method is directly related to the number of volunteers we can put into the field at the location on that particular day. We are always delighted to have new collectors join us - more collectors means more money raised. If you can help, even occasionally, contact us at fundraising@swanfieldmstc.org.uk
