SWANFIELDFundraising - It's all up to you ......
The centre is funded mostly by donations from the members and from the public. All members (except those who really cannot afford it) give a small donation each time they attend (for example, about £9 per one-hour HBO session). This goes toward the expenses of the Centre, but even with the assistance of unpaid volunteers, and a partial grant from our local NHS Health Board, expenditure is more than income and the difference has to be raised from outside.
A lot of our members are active in fund-raising, but the nature of MS means that many of them (and their families) are fully occupied in coping with the demands of everyday living. We depend heavily upon fit and able-bodied people like yourselves.

On 24th and 25th of May 2008 the trustees of Dr Neils' Garden will open it again for our benefit. Last year, as usual, a great time was had by all who came, and we raised some welcome funds for the Centre. Cameras were busy, and you can see some pictures by clicking here.
These pictures are your last chance to see a slim Maya for a while, as she and Dean expect their first child in the summer.

We will once again be at the Corstorphine Fair on 7th June 2008. For any newcomers to Edinburgh who have not heard of it, the Fair is held every two years in St Margaret's Park. It is the largest community event in the city, with something like 25,000 people visiting and over 100 organisations raising funds for themselves and local charities. The children of Corstorphine certainly have a good time enjoying the fun and entertainments. 2006 featured an antiques-roadshow-style valuation team, fashion show, parade of pipers, magic show, wacky races, battle of the bands and many more. Watch this space for more details of what treats are planned for 2008.

To identify customers visiting from here, we need you to enter the word "SWANFIELD" in the comments box on the checkout page when you have chosen your items. Click on the Sparklefish logo to visit. Do take a look at what is currently in stock - it changes from week to week, and many things are one-offs. These craftsmen and women are personal friends of some of our members (Anne M. was wearing a blue bracelet from them when last seen.) Many of the artists are living and working in Central Scotland, all have connections with Scottish art colleges.

Don't throw that stamp away!
Send us the used postage stamps from your envelopes. Foreign stamps are the most valuable, but even humble second class UK stamps can be bundled up and sold on. Cut them from the envelope leaving about half a centimetre margin and post them to us at the Centre at 40c Swanfield, Edinburgh, EH6 5RX
NOTE - Please wrap them tightly. If you pack them loosely into an envelope with the usual postage, they sometimes all congregate at one end, making the package too thick - and then we have to pay excess postage to receive your gift.
If you have access to large quantities of used stamps,
then please see http://www.stamp-shop.com/charity-stamps.html to see how to send them direct to our dealer, without going through us. We will still receive the same money for them (about £2 a kilo).
